Girl on girl action.

So in the competitive world of "male-dominated" online video gaming, you'd think there would be a little solidarity between females. And you'd be wrong... some of the time. I have the privilege to game with a few women who are amazing, engaging people, but every once in a while you come across some chick with a major chip in her shoulder. Generally, these girls get really defensive when they play against other women because they think they're THE ONLY GIRL playing video games, and they don't want to meet another girl playing THEIR game (especially if that girl is better than them). The other night, I was lucky enough to meet one of these girls. She immediately freaked out on me the first time I spoke. This is a two-part recording; the first part was recorded in the pre-game lobby, the second was recorded after our team won the game.

The Players:
Wildcat and Phoenix are friends of mine.
RFP is a Random Female Player who was put on the opposing team.

Transcript [part 1]

[What I missed: I didn't start recording soon enough, but basically we got into the room in time to hear a girl say something about an experience she had being trash talked, and I said, "I HATE it when that happens!". Then she promptly lost her shit.]

RFP: [speaking to me] You’re like ten, so shut up.

Me: Woah. This girl just freaked out for like, no reason.

Wildcat: I’m like, 20.

RFP: [mocking me] Oh, like let’s talk like THIS.

Transcript [part 2]

[Fun fact: I got the final kill in the game, and it was done with double pistols I had taken off of someone's body.]

Me: Of all the kills that could have ended this game.

RFP: You know how to camp. You didn’t fuckin’ move! You’re a little bitch that don’t move! Look at ya.

Wildcat: Hey, hey, hey…

RFP: That’s just at the end of the game after you done got killed cuz you camped the whole fucking game!

Me: Be bitter.

Wildcat: Wow.

[laughter]

Phoenix: Just got owned. Just back out like everyone else.

RFP: I don’t need to back out cuz she’s a camper so I know what to expect!

Me: My stats versus yours, man.

RFP: I don’t GIVE a fuck!

Phoenix: I was runnin' the whole time all over you!

Me: Apparently you do, because you’re freaking out.

RFP: You’re a camper!

Wildcat: [mocking her] You’re a camper.

Phoenix: Make up another exc- well then you know where she is!

RFP: OBVIOUSLY. I wasn’t playin’ that round though, my husband was.

Phoenix: Oh okay.

Me: WOW.

And there it is, the kicker. This girl spent this whole time freaking out and talking a massive amount of shit, and then blamed her husband for her poor playing. The other funny part of this whole experience is that after my team finished playing against this girl, one of her teammates (who was apparently a friend of hers) sent me this message:

  1. Back in my Halo 3 days, I was in a small clan and there were 2 other girls. One of the girls was kind of like this. Whenever the other girl or I would join the game, she would leave and then shit-talk us to whoever she could get to follow her. She HATED other girls on the game because they took the attention away from her. I used to called her Highlander because she had this attitude like "there can only be one".

  2. Supernova, that's amazing. I've been searching for a way to describe that behavior, and the nearest I could come was a phrase like "Girls suck! Except for me." Highlander is much better.

  3. "There can be only one vagina!"

  4. Ever played any MMOs ? The female players in guilds are vicious.

  5. @Gamin_Guru

I used to play MMO's way, way back in the day, but not enough to experience that type of behavior. I'd believe it though, our gender can be just as ruthless about territory as men are!

  6. That guy who sent you the message afterward seemed nice. I got a message once from someone who was shooting my corpse in the kill cam in BF3. The message said: "I was shooting at some mines, not your corpse. I'm not a douche". That message made my day a little bit better.

  8. I totally agree with this. Most girls i go against start getting defensive, afraid i'll steal their spotlight. i can care less about that bs, all i want is a win and kills. she and her group of guys start bitching me and my team. most of the time the girl suck at the game and only in it for the attention, my team and i always triumph.

  9. Some of the best online fights I've had in games were alongside, or against other women. For the most part, they were cool to talk to, with the occasional Wynar's Syndrome getting in the way. It was thankfully a rarity.

    Rock on!

  10. While I feel that society judges and encourages others to judge women far too harshly, this woman needs to calm. the. fuck. doooooown. I have NEVER encountered this kind of behavior from women EVER when playing online games so this is pretty amusing but not surprising. A lot of women have the whole "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mentality (nicknamed "tomboy") and it's really sad that they'd even consider wanting to be "one of the guys."
