The Outer Worlds released in early 2019 and is a new science-fiction game developed by Obsidian Entertainment. It’s the latest installment in the Fallout series and was met with mixed reviews. However, one of the most common complaints about the game is that it uses an ultrawide fullscreen option which causes performance issues for some players.

The outer worlds widescreen fix is a mod that fixes the issue of the game not displaying in fullscreen mode. This mod also makes the game compatible with ultrawide resolutions.

The Outer Worlds only supports windowed fullscreen resolutions, not full screen ultrawide screens.

Although increasing the FOV is beneficial, there are a few settings to tweak in order to play the game in full screen mode with an ultrawide display.

Fix for Fullscreen, Field of View, and Chromatic Aberration

If you’re using a 34401440 display, these are the settings to use:

Edit the following settings in the GameUserSettings.ini file in percent LOCALAPPDATA percent IndianaSavedConfigWindowsNoEditor:

FullscreenMode=0 LastConfirmedFullscreenMode=0 PreferredFullscreenMode=0 ResolutionSizeX=3440 DesiredScreenWidth=3440 ResolutionSizeY=1440 DesiredScreenHeight=1440

At this resolution, I also adjusted the FOV to 110, which appears to be a decent number for me:

Then, if desired, you may enter this string into the Engine. To eliminate the fuzzy chromatic aberration, edit the ini file as follows:

r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0 [SystemSettings]

These files will be overwritten if you alter any settings in-game, so make them read-only, and don’t visit the settings menu otherwise you’ll be caught in a loop if you answer “No” to the request to apply the new settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I watch full screen on ultrawide monitor?

There are a few ways to do this. You can set your monitor to be in native or full screen mode, you can use the built-in display scaling options in Windows 10, or you can adjust the resolution of your monitor.

Why ultrawide is bad for gaming?

Ultrawide monitors can cause a lot of strain on your eyes and neck. This is due to the fact that you have to turn your head more in order to see everything, which can lead to neck pain or eye strain.

How do I change my resolution to 3440×1440?

You can change your resolution in the settings tab of the game.
