The Outer Worlds is a new sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division, the same team behind Fallout: New Vegas. It’s available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

The outer worlds save file download is a tool that allows players to import their saves and achievements from the Outer Worlds game to Steam.

If you, like me, began playing The Outer Worlds on Xbox Game Pass for PC (or EGS?) on the day of release (or shortly after), you’ve presumably made progress and gained achievements since then, and you’d want it to transfer over to Steam now that you own (or plan to purchase) it here. This is a step-by-step approach to achieving that goal.

The Outer Worlds saves are saved by default at the following location:

Saved Games in C:Usersusername Windows 10 The Outer Worlds

Steam’s The Outer Worlds saves are stored in the following place by default:

Saved Games in C:Usersusername The Other Side of the Universe

The Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass have the same locations.

Because the EGS and Steam versions use the same save folder, this may not be required.

Step 1:

If you haven’t done so previously, run The Outer Worlds on Steam in Online mode once (launching the game in Offline mode populates a different folder, which is what “_LOCAL_” is for) so that the game generates and populates the necessary files.

Step 2:

After that, navigate to the following folder:

Saved Games in C:Usersusername The Other Side of the Universe Windows 10 The Outer Worlds

A “_LOCAL_” folder should exist, as well as a folder with a lengthy number string. There are several subfolders titled “Autosave…”, “Quicksave…”, and so on under the latter folder, but just as essential is a file called “Achievement.dat,” which is self-explanatory.

Select or copy all of these files and paste them into the following folder:

Saved Games in C:Usersusername The Other Side of the Universe

Make sure they all go straight into that folder, with no subfolders other than the ones you put or paste in there.

Step 3:

Now relaunch The Outer Worlds in Online mode, and if you have Steam Cloud enabled, keep an eye out for a Steam popup asking which save file you’d want to use. Because those are the files you just uploaded to the game’s folder, choose the upload to the cloud option. Choosing the alternative choice would most certainly overwrite the data you just entered, as well as possibly damage any existing save files.
